The prototype for this car incorporated several features that are considered advanced for the time. In addition to using a driveshaft and differential, the prototype had three-speeds plus reverse, and used a steering wheel instead of a tiller. Direct top gear, a feature patented by Renault, became an industry standard.

Chronology:

1898 - Louis Renault and his brothers started the Renault Company and built their first prototype car in Billancourt, France.
1914-1918 - Renault made trucks, stretchers, ambulances, shells and tanks for the First World War.
1922 - Renault used 4-wheel hydraulic brakes for the first time.
1926 - Renault became the first car to average more than 100 miles per hour over 24 hours.
1945 - Ranault becomes a National Corporation.
1978 - Stan Reynolds acquires this Model NN.
1984 - Stan Reynolds donates the vehicle to the Reynolds Museum.
