A home-built caboose in the shape of a house. Mounted directly onto metal runners, this winter vehicle does not have axles or a sophisticated running gear. Inside are benches against each wall that seat eight people, and in the back right corner is a crude stove for warmth. The lines could be fed through the two small grooves in the frame under the front window, allowing the driver to steer the two-horse team with the window closed.
Cabooses were common sights during cold Canadian winters, particularly in rural areas. They allowed for warmer travel in weather conditions that wheeled vehicles couldn't navigate easily or safely. Home-built vehicles like this one could be used to get children to school, or for the entire family to travel longer distances.
