The Mercury marque was founded in 1939 to fill the gap between entry-level Fords and luxury Lincolns. In 1945, Mercury combined with the Lincoln division to form Lincoln-Mercury Division. Mercury used their own designs and mechanical components until the late 1970s when they became a more elegant Ford.

2017 - Ford suffers financial troubles again and cuts global workforce
2018 - Ford announces that over next four years, it will discontinue production of passenger cars in North America, except for the Mustang
2020 - Covid-19 Pandemic further affected sales and production of vehicles
