This 1911 International Harvester (IHC) Type D 25 is the only known surviving example to bear the Reliance name. When IHC introduced the Type D in 1910, the original model name was Reliance; however, this name was dropped in December 1910 and the Type D was renamed Titan. Since this Type D was built and shipped in 1911, we can assume that the corporate decision to change the name had not yet reached the shop floor.
International Harvester Company (IHC) was established in 1902 through a merger of five companies: McCormick Harvesting Machine Company, Deering Harvester Company, Milwaukee Harvesting Machine Co., Plano Manufacturing Co., and Warder, Bushnell & Glessner. This new company, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, was valued at $150 million USD; as of 2023, this is equivalent to over $5 billion USD or nearly $3.8 billion CAD.
There are three surviving Type Ds older than this 1911 tractor. However, there is no evidence that these older tractors bear the Reliance name.
